Why have we chosen the name “BCSDPortugal” for our new online Business Center for Sustainable Development, and not something more trendly, like “BCSDManitoba”? While we have been inspired by the country known as Portugal, the site is not about Portugal. Confusing; yes. But we figured, this will only be in the beginning.
Our site will feature Articles, Links, Resources, & a Directory, all pertaining to sustainable development.
We are now officially opened, as of January 1st, 2014. Happy New Year, World! : )
As stated in Wikipedia, ” [Portugal is]…one of the world’s most globalized and peaceful nations.” (Link) With a long history spanning almost six hundred years, Portugal sustained a culture that nearly encircled the globe. As a colonial power, Portugal has changed and adapted to the new Global Reality, and is moving forward with rapidity into the future.
Our focus is providing a web site for nonprofits, corporations, small businesses, and charities worldwide that concern themselves with some aspect of sustainable development. Sustainable development of cities and urban spaces are areas of key concern in the coming decades.
North American, South American, European, Asian, African, and all other worldwide sustainable development projects are within our area of focus. New York City, Detroit, Los Angeles, Chicago, Montreal, Mexico City, London, Lisbon, and other metro areas are also areas of concern.
Areas of focus shall be Alternative Fuels, Alternative Building Materials, Organic Farming, Sustainable Practices for Traditional Businesses, as well as the less obvious topics of holistic and alternative care, including Massage Therapy, Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Herbology.
The advent of online businesses and e-shopping meant fewer businesses needed to have a physical location where customers could shop or learn about the products or services for sale, thus reducing costs, and such companies’ cost to the environment. Mobile Businesses, such as Mobile Massage or Mobile Chiropractic Care, erase the need for a location with its own set of energy needs.
Online businesses are opting to choose hosting services that are environmentally friendly, running their equipment on solar and wind power. These are exciting times; the face of our world is changing, and for the better, indisputably. With a great concern for the environment comes a more responsible outlook, something the world seems to need quite badly.
